U.S. Government Assault On the Freedom of the Press

Have I gone totally insane? Thinking most of my life that the U.S. government actually worked for we the people of the United States of America. Or have they gone totally insane, thinking that they don't? More and more we are being presented with evidence that they could actually care less what we think, and even less about what we do, than at any time in my short memory.
Oh yes, we still get to vote on which arm of the corporate wing we choose to relieve us of our civil and individual rights. Yes we do get to choose which firearm we want to use to protect ourselves from the civil unrest their arbitrary laws create. So far we still get to...ok maybe that's about all we have left, but we do still have that. But they're doing their best to silence our only source of receiving opposing messages.
By hiding everything government does, and cloaking it regardless of what it is under the guise of national security, what they are telling us is that we are too stupid to decide the direction our country takes into the future. Mommy and daddy, or in this case Uncle Sam will take care of that for us. We need not worry about such things, they know what is best for us. Thanky Uncy Sammy!
Am I being ridiculous? What do you think, is this a U.S. government assault on the freedom of the press?

Top-level comments on this article: (9 total)David, I'm in Readers' Club. I started watching the video, but I'll have to come back to finish it later. This much I can say, however: it's not your sanity that's in question!Thank you Jennifer, I was beginning to wonder.:)
I've just listened to most of the interview, and I'm quite blown away, Assange is such an intelligent man. He talks very articulately about a new kind of McCarthy-ism - but he makes a strong case for optimism, I think. I love the part where he says the silent majority are starting to organize. Thanks for writing about this, David :)Thanks for reading this Jenn.
"...hiding everything government does, and cloaking it regardless of what it is under the guise of national security..." This path sounds very familiar to a Liberian whose government went from free to tyrannical, but perhaps it is too soon to forecast this for the great United States, the bastion of liberty, the exporter of freedom, especially freedom of the press. ~mogama~Unfortunately for America Mr. Mogama, that is starting to look more and more like the America of the past that we could be proud of. I hope as you do, that America can be woken in time to avert such a travesty. I for one will not let it die quietly. Thank you for reading sir, and the comment.
Our government is acting more like a dictatorship than a democracy. Yes we the people are suppose to rule not these fools in Washington. That's what I was thinking too David. Thank you.
If you think you're assaulted now; just wait 'til you become what they call- a "senior citizen"But by then you're so used to being assualted that you're what the old timers used to call "shell shocked" or what they later called "suffering from post trumatic stress"- whatever they call it- it all means the same thing.......you've been living in this @#$% a long time!- Good article Dave- Always- EllaYou're soooooooo sweet! I think AARP already considers me one.:-( Oh well, long as there's a tomorrow they're going to have a hard time shutting me up today.;-) Thank you so much for reading, and the comment. As always.
David I have written to this numerous times. I'm glad to see many more are strating to ask. Best wishes.I've been asking this question for quite some time, just not necessarily in this venue. Just trying to do my part in getting others to at least analyze this issue.
Thanks for reading, and the comment Mr. Talk.
The real question is how much more can the people of this country take? Any idea or concept of freedom is gone, now we just have extremes of conformity to live by. Do this, do that, don't do this, don't do that, conform, conform, conform, all for the greater good. Let us search you, take naked pictures of you, ask you questions, look up your history, is there anything left? No your not insane, well, maybe you are according to all of the fearmongering conformists out there who think they can prevent everything. We're a lost cause David, our Constitution is relegated to so many different interpretations, it has no meaning anymore. What's illegal today is legal tomorrow, and what's legal today is illegal tomorrow. I have to admit that I'm so confused by our legal ideology that I'm at the point of just saying to myself, just conform, conform, conform, and leave it to someone else to worry about all of this mess. Rick Medina. Another excellent and thought provoking article. You're right. I think the big difference in this country in particular is that too many people are willing to concede their individual liberty for that of people they consider to be great leaders of moral judgement. Billy Graham, one of the biggest crooks in the history of mankind was recently acknowledged as one of the top 10 most admired men in this country over the past fifty years. This is insane. I rest my case. Thanks for reading, and the comment Rick.
I agree with you on this! If government had it their way, we woud be seeing only what they choose. I have a feeling we are heading in that direction. .. Well said David. Many blessings to you in 2011!Thank you for reading and the comment Teresa. Same to you, and yours in 2011.
You have been spot on with sharing this valuable piece of information sir! What Assange says is very revolutionary in thought, word and deed. We need more Assange-s in the society today who can burn the earth and get rid of the pests and worms. Thank you again. :-)Pest control:-), never thought of it that way, but the shoe does fit! Thanks for reading, and the comment DM.
